What is Confidence?

I delivered a talk recently and afterwards, someone said to me, "You’re so confident... I could never do that".

I hear this a lot; I know I seem confident. I’m at ease speaking in public and leading sessions; I enjoy being on stage. But there's a reason.

I’ve delivered hundreds of talks, workshops, and presentations. I studied performing arts as a teenager and young adult. I’ve been teaching for 20 years. That’s two decades of learning how to communicate clearly, connect with people, and hold a room.

I've put in the reps.

And still, I get nervous and struggle with impostor syndrome. But I do it anyway (even when I don't quite feel ready) because confidence is not a feeling: it's a practice.

Which means anyone can do it.

How can you practise confidence today?
